New Resources: Dyslexia Packs
Around 10% of the population has dyslexia – a vast number of whom are unable to reach their full potential due to being undiagnosed or not receiving adequate support. In fact, 80% will leave school without a diagnosis. It is therefore unsurprising that many people with dyslexia face daily barriers, whether in education, in employment, or in life.
Ahead of Dyslexia Awareness Week #DAW24, which is coming up on 7th to 13th October, the British Dyslexia Association have produced a series of packs of downloadable information and resources for educators, employers, adults with dyslexia, and parents/carers. Each of these tailored and interactive packs was developed to help children and adults with dyslexia receive the support they need to flourish, as part of the British Dyslexia Association’s campaign towards a more inclusive society. All resources can be accessed and downloaded via their website.
We thought these materials were very well done and wanted to share them with our community. If you have dyslexia, or support or employ someone who does, we highly recommend you take a look.
The pack for parents and carers, for example, includes information on spotting the signs of dyslexia, how to talk to a child about dyslexia and some hints and tips for supporting a dyslexic child at home and school. There are suggestions of technology that can help students and links to further information such as webinars. There are also short form ‘top tips’ documents aimed at each audience – each including ideas to support with topics such as reading, spelling, writing stories, maths and organisation.
We hope you will find them as helpful as we did, and will join us in working to create a dyslexia-friendly society!
