    Sonay Ozkutayli

    Director, Co-founder

Sonay's journey is one imbued with a deep sense of purpose and a fervent dedication to ensuring that children with neurodiversity are not just protected but thrive in life. Her commitment to this cause is not just professional; it's personal, and it's driven by a profound understanding of the challenges that these children and their families face.

Sonay's awareness of the importance of supporting children with neurodiversity began at a young age. Her younger brother was diagnosed with ADHD in 1989 by the esteemed Professor Taylor of King's College and the Maudsley Hospital. She observed her mother's unwavering determination as she tirelessly navigated the complexities of securing the right support and understanding for her brother. It was a journey filled with obstacles, and Sonay saw firsthand the critical need for proper advocacy.

Later in life, Sonay received her own diagnoses of ADHD at the age of 40 and dyslexia at 26. Her journey as a mother to children on the neurodiversity pathway has been marked by frustration due to the slow progress and a lack of comprehensive support and understanding from local services and schools. This personal experience has not only fueled her passion but also equipped her with a unique insight into the challenges that countless parents face.

Sonay's professional journey has been driven by her commitment to making a difference. With 15 years of experience in teaching and leadership roles in secondary schools across Kent and Inner London, she became a Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO) in 2018, earning a master's level qualification in the process. Her expertise in the statutory requirements and rights of her own children is unwavering, yet she often finds herself compelled to advocate on their behalf.

Her decision to step away from education and establish the NDF Hub is driven by a simple but profound question: If she, with her considerable skill set and knowledge, faces challenges in getting her children's needs met, what is the experience like for other parents? The long-term impact on these children cannot be underestimated.

Sonay's qualifications and experience are a testament to her commitment. She holds a Bachelor of Law, a PGCE, and various qualifications related to education and Special Educational Needs. She has taken on leadership roles within schools, served as a staff Governor, Head of Careers, Subject Lead for Global Politics, and even an English Examiner. Beyond her professional life, she is a devoted volunteer for her Church's Sunday school and actively participates in fundraising efforts for the homeless through the charity Robes. She also plays a significant role as a council member for The Foundation For Education Development, an organization that advocates for a stable, long-term education policy.

Apart from her professional commitments, Sonay has a deep passion for staying active through weight lifting and keeping both her body and mind motivated. She finds joy in dancing and the art of home decoration.

With an MA, LLB, PGCE, and a wealth of experience, Sonay Ozkutayli brings a wealth of knowledge, a personal connection, and a deep sense of compassion to her role at the NDF Hub. Her commitment to championing the rights and well-being of neurodiverse children is unwavering, and her warm and professional demeanor makes her a trusted advocate and ally for the neurodiversity community.
