Art Workshop: Building Imaginary Worlds
Invited by Drawing Room and led by imaginative artist and visual storyteller Amanda Wayne, this hands-on art workshop invites participants to slow down, explore their creativity, and build their own imaginative worlds.
The day will begin with playful, gentle creative activities in the yard or Bermondsey Spa Gardens, using movement, observation and simple prompts to spark curiosity and connection with our surroundings. We will pause for lunch together at 12:30pm, creating a relaxed and social moment to recharge.
From 1–3pm, participants will take part in a guided studio workshop, creating miniature diorama worlds inside boxes using drawing, collage and tactile materials. Inspired by storytelling, texture and imagination, each world will unfold its own narrative — real or fantastical.
We will finish the day with an hour of free, playful time in the yard or back in the park (weather permitting), allowing space for connection, movement and joy.
This workshop celebrates slow, mindful making, encouraging curiosity, play and self-expression through simple materials and imaginative exploration. No prior art experience is needed — just a willingness to explore and create.

The Summer Escapes programme of 2025, funded by Southwark Council, turned out to be a wonderful success – but also an unexpected learning journey. At the start, things weren’t easy. We had planned the programme only for young adults aged 16–25, but numbers were low. Opening the project to younger participants from age 11 upwards felt like a gamble. Could such a wide age range really play and learn together? To our delight (with safeguarding in place), the answer was yes – not only did they mix, but they thrived together. Friendships formed across ages, and the young people surprised us with their generosity and adaptability. -

At our club, we believe in creating a safe space where young people can try new things, take risks, and step outside their comfort zones. For many neurodiverse children, going out on the water is a big challenge—but it’s also an incredible opportunity to build confidence and discover joy. This summer’s kayaking trip proved that with the right support, encouragement, and teamwork, new experiences can be both exciting and deeply rewarding. -
