Parachute Time at Tiny Tribe

Creating Communities at Tiny Tribe

Back in mid-July, our last Tiny Tribe session before the summer break was a perfect snapshot of what makes this group so special — and why you might want to join us when we return in September. The room was filled with the warmth of the community that has blossomed here, as mothers arrived with delicious, wholesome food to share. Laughter bubbled as the children played together, returning to familiar favourites like play dough and flour painting.

A Space Where Every Child Can Shine

The magic of the Hub lies in its ability to create a space where all children, whether neurotypical or neurodiverse, can shine. Here, they can explore sensory toys, immerse themselves in art, and unlock new parts of their creativity and identity — all while learning the value of community. That spirit was perfectly captured when all the children gathered under the parachute to sing together, with spontaneous giggles bursting between verses.

Urwa, a regular volunteer, summed it up beautifully: “I was absolutely captivated watching these 2- to 3-year-olds transform a little slide into a makeshift water slide, pouring water from their water play tray using cups. This was ingenious creativity at its finest!”

It’s a joy to witness the pride on the children’s faces as they present their creations to peers and carers — a testament to the personal growth that happens here.

Sharing Food, Stories, and Friendship

Sharing food at Tiny Tribe

At the close of activities, children and mothers gathered around the table to eat -something we don’t usually do, but made special for this final session before summer. Old friends and new acquaintances sat side by side, sharing in everything that had been brought. A peaceful hush of happy exhaustion settled over the group, a sign of a morning well spent.

The unique magic of Tiny Tribe is its unwavering welcome to every kind of child, celebrating every kind of mind. As Urwa noted, it’s this neuroaffirming atmosphere — where families feel supported and diversity is embraced — that makes volunteering here so rewarding.

That final summer session was a beautiful reminder of how Tiny Tribe has become a large, slightly unorthodox, but wonderfully joyous family — coming together to learn, share, and celebrate.

We look forward to welcoming you back when sessions resume on Wednesday 10th September, 10am–12pm at Mint Street Adventure Play Ground inside Mint Street Park (next to the football pitch - enter where the black gate is) - Southwark Bridge Road - Se1 1QP
